The Border Historical Society is a 501(c )3 nonprofit organization in Eastport, Maine, dedicated to preserving our local Eastport history. The Barracks Museum is a true testament to Maine's war history. The British occupied Eastport from 1814-1818, making their base at Fort Sullivan. All military use of Fort Sullivan ended in 1873. It was then sectioned and one part, now known as "The Barracks", was moved to its present location at 74 Washington Street. Inside, you will discover the rich military history of Fort Sullivan, as well as interesting facts about civilian life in Eastport during this time period. You can also learn about the once-booming local sardine and ground fishing industry, which made Eastport, Maine the "Sardine Capital of the World".
